Gender And Sexuality In British Literature
Course Details
This course examines British literature from various genres and periods through the lens of gender and sexuality. You will explore the changing roles of women in Early Modern England, themes of womanhood, sexuality, and maternity in Romanticism and the Gothic, censorship and (homo)sexuality, constructions of masculinity in 20th Century British literature, and queer literature in contemporary Britain. Theoretical frameworks such as feminist literary theory and queer theory will be applied throughout the course. Lectures and supplementary resources will provide historical and cultural context.
